CeBIT 2010

Area ‚HOME‘ – Living in an aging society

Safeguarding tomorrow’s quality of life. New possibilities for everyday life and living.

SAP Research, SAP’s global research organization, presents at CeBIT 2010 how the vision of a digital product memory and the Future Internet can help with everyday processes.

The scenario shows how IT will be able to simplify and quicken the processes of ordering, verifying, picking, and shipping medications in the future. It also highlights how IT can help reduce healthcare costs and increase safety levels in the supply and administration of medications.

The exhibit illustrates how sending a personalized refill order for a medication via a mobile device can reduce the number of time-consuming visits made to the doctor and the pharmacy to collect prescription drug refills. A Web-based knowledge platform helps doctors and pharmacists verify and approve refill orders. Once approval for a refill order has been given, the medication service provider assembles a personalized tablet blister pack and ensures that it is delivered punctually to the patient. Throughout the process, the focus is on ensuring that the patient receives the correct medication at the correct time. Patients can use their mobile phones to read the digital product memory of the blister pack by scanning a special barcode to check that the package does in fact contain the tablet blister packs they ordered and to access additional information and service offerings related to the medication.

This demonstration is related to the goals of the projects ADiWa, Aletheia und SemProM (www.adiwa.net, www.aletheia-projekt.de, www.semprom.de), funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the Context of the HighTech – strategy IKT 2020.

The Cluster ‘Software for the Digital Enterprise’ will extend the concepts and visions developed in these projects. Additionally, basic concepts of the EU funded project RESERVOIR (http://www.reservoir-fp7.eu/) and Virtex have been used for the demo implementation.
