Innovation Round Table 2009

ADiWa supports Christmas trade with Smart Phones

On December, 17th the Innovation Round Table, a joint event by SAP and BASF, took place in Walldorf. About 20 CTOs of various industries got an insight to several research projects and their exhibits. ADiWa presented with the help of an animated movie and a plausible example of the value added chain of a smart phone how business processes could be flexible and dynamic composed and adapted in the future.

The story: Miss Mueller wants to buy a smart phone for her husband as a Christmas present. She has to drive to three different shops to buy it finally. At Christmas – after her husband unpacks his present – they realize that the smart phone is defect.

The problem: The empty shelters and the defect product in this story are caused by several problems in the value added chain which could happen:

  • Production isn’t conforming to the law and the import has delays
  • No transparency in the production
  • In logistics the breakdown of transportation caused delivery delays
  • Improper intermediate storage in wholesale caused defect products
  • No transparency of the stock in the shop and missing promotion goods

The solution: The vision of ADiWa is to support the whole value added chain for example of the smart phone production is:

  • Usage of all process relevant information out of the ‚Internet of Things‘
  • Flexible composition, dynamic & variable adaption of business processes in enterprises
  • Generating business value

That’s how overall transparency and interaction within the whole value added chain is achieved.
